Communications for 3 years now ButlerCountyOUM Platoon Commander Moderator NCO Contributor Member # 26 posted 11-27-2002 06:44 for 3 years now, or more, there have been MANY MANY people working together to educate, equip, train, and coordinate 'patriot commo'..... we're out of time folks. if you don't have it now, you better get REALLY BUSY.... i am ASSUMING (and we know what that means) that 'small group' commo is a done deal. if your part of a group, and you can't talk to each other yet, you are WAY BEHIND the power curve. if you and your friends, can't talk to other friends in your area, YOU BETTER GET BUSY. if you don't at least have a shortwave receiver, capable of receiving SSB and CW, well, guess what, it's getting close to Tammuz day, and there are lots of them available at your local radio shack, for less than what you might pay for a case of ammo. if you think that the internet, or ANYTHING associated with a computer is a good PRIMARY or SECONDARY means of communications, you are WOEFULLY MISINFORMED. ASSUME the following: everything on the internet is being captured, using something similar to TCPDUMP, being reconstructed into 'threads' and getting fed through a 'filter'. when you get enough 'key words' put together, the 'filter' spits out your 'captured packets' and an analyst decides if today is your lucky day or not. lets see, will it be Child Protective services this week? or will it be a Zoneing issue? or maybe, just a little 'call' that you were seen driving over the little yellow line, and you may be signal 11. (er, dui), or will it be a BATF raid. does it really matter? oh, yeah, the phone. yeah, the one that suddenly doesn't work when you need it most. including the cellphone. yep, if you are gonna get raided, most likely, your landline phone, and your cellphone will not be operational. COMPUTER SECURITY IS A MYTH. YOUR PHONE IS BEING MONITORED. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, please spend time with your loved ones. and please help someone in need. and for those that celebrate Tammuz day, I'm sorry, but at least try to spend some time in prayer. /rick out. Okay, Im uninformed. What can i get ASAP from a local store like radio shack as you mentioned? I have no knowledge in commo. What can i get that doesn't require a lisance? Radio's are the only form of long distance communication that does not rely on a "middleman". Think about it, your cell phones probably go through 4 or 5 (if not more) differant redirectors and till it gets to the other person on the line, the internet probably goes through hundreds. Heres a site that has alot of choices http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/index2.html rick can you break down what frequency ranges we should be shopping for in Hz and Mhz, so we know what to ask for? look here, you will find most of the info you need: http://www.awrm.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000026 NATIONAL NETWORK F-1__3.860-LSB-Nightime Monitor / Eastern Regional Patriot Net_Meets Nightly @ 01:00 hour F-2__7.238-LSB-Net-Alternate F-3_10.145-NPS Digital/Packett Net F-4_14.340-USB-Daytime Monitor F-5_18.140-USB-Daytime Monitor F-6_27.555-Daytime Monitor/DX Initial Contact F-7_28.333-USB-ConSigCor LOCAL/REGIONAL INITIAL CONTACT FREQS: _26.160-LSB Low Call Initial Contact -27.385-LSB Initial Contact _27.500-LSB Monitor Freq. _53.085-LSB 146.485-Simplex 146.520-Sideband/Simplex 147.555-Simplex-Initial Contact Dang Good Post ButlerCountyOUM Unfortunately many will STILL NOT head you advice. For some (not I) it is easy to see the Net as viable form of communications. It works great when nothing is happening, however WTSHTF nothing works. As they say when you go shopping for some of the best deals, "cut out the middleman!" Same goes for comms. The more links that there are the weaker the chain is 73! OK, you've convinced me. I'll go shopping to see what I can afford. Very limited funds available, but will save. If I could only get one piece at a time, what would you recommend as the FIRST thing to get? Second, third, etc in order of usefulness. What about to pick up the 80m discussed on another thread? Magnum First thing is get a simple shortwave receiver and if you can afford it a wide band receiver that can serve as a polce scanner as well. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/widerxvr/2488.html The Icom R2 WIDEBAND receiver. It has a frequency range of 495 kHz to 1309.9 MHz and has 400 channels of memory. Its a shortwave radio, AM/FM radio and police scanner all in one and its on sale for $150! The only thing I wonder it how it would stand up (shortwave receiving quality wise) to the Sangean or Grundig $100-$130 shortwave receivers, when using the option antenna adapter and a telescoping antenna...not the rubber ducky. Anyone got any input? To answer some of the above questions. First...Buy a handheld scanner with at least 100 channels to monitor local conditions. 2nd...Get a shortwave receiver with Sideband for long range receive. 3rd...GMRS for all team members. 4th...Mobile sideband cb for local commo. Everyone take a minute and read the Tactical Comm: Team and Squad Bulletin in this forum. quote: The Yaesu VR-500 is like having a miniature monitoring station in the palm of your hand. The VR-500 is the first to provide wideband coverage plus single sideband capability in such a small and capable package. Coverage is from 100 kHz to 1300 MHz (1.3 GHz) less cellular, in AM, FM-N, FM-W, LSB, USB and CW. You get 1000 regular memories (10x100) plus 10 search band memories, 19 starting point memories, 10 weather memories, 10 dual watch memories and 1 priority memory! You get tuning steps from 50 Hz to 100 kHz. it says its only $220 after you sue a coupon....although Im not sure where you get this coupon I'll have to check out the site better.
